Cool Cats of Jazz Alley

I had this idea for a children's book about cats that danced and partied to jazz music. I've always loved children's books, starting a small collection that continues to inspire my own storytelling and illustration techniques. This was my first illustration-heavy project, so I did extensive research and exercises on digital illustration. I ended up finding a bold style, metallic color palette, and chalk-like brushes that worked perfectly for this colorful story. My favorite part was storyboarding on the floor of my apartment, swapping flash cards around to get the perfect pacing. This story was inspired by The Aristocats as well as historical jazz musicians whom I included as easter eggs throughout the book. I even wrote the story in a rhythm and rhyme to mimic jazz music. I printed and bound a dozen books myself which I gave as gifts to select friends and family. Someday, I wish to redo the illustrations for publishing. All illustrations were digitally drawn in Photoshop with a Wacom tablet.
